Linda C.
Years Smoked - 42

Linda C. is from Queens, NY and works as a bookkeeper at a little girls' dress manufacturer. She has one daughter and a beautiful 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter Allyson, who fortunately lives just five minutes from her.

Linda began smoking when she was just 12 years old because "it was just the thing to do back then." Both of Linda's parents smoked. Linda recalls seeing tobacco advertising on TV when she was younger. Linda considered herself addicted. "When you smoke, the cigarettes control you, you don't control the cigarettes. The only thing on your mind is, when you're doing something, when can I get another cigarette," she adds.

Linda was diagnosed with lung cancer. For her, the worst experience was undergoing chemotherapy. "You go through hell," she says.

Before being diagnosed, Linda had tried to quit three or four times, then quit immediately upon her lung cancer diagnosis. Linda feels that her entire perspective has changed since her diagnosis. "Now it's like, if it gets done, it gets done. Family is more important."
